License

Effective with Highwind 3.7.0

Summary: the Highwind desktop client, Fleet agent and ADMX templates are free to use, including commercially and in government, under the Highwind Client License.

The Highwind Fleet management API and portal are commercial: they need a signed license file issued by LaPlante Labs LLC (request one at support@laplantelabs.com), which is verified offline on your own server. Releases before 3.7.0 remain available under the MIT License.

Which license applies

These texts are provided for convenience; the copy in the release package or repository is authoritative. A signed agreement takes precedence where it conflicts.

Highwind Client License

Highwind Client License
Version 1.0, effective with Highwind 3.7.0

Copyright (c) 2025-2026 LaPlante Labs LLC. All rights reserved.

This license covers the Highwind Windows desktop application, its installer,
the Highwind Fleet agent that ships inside it, and the Highwind ADMX/ADML
templates (together, the "Software"). The Highwind Fleet management API and
portal are NOT covered by this license; see "Highwind Fleet" below.

1. Grant. Free of charge, you may download, install and use any number of
   copies of the Software, for personal, internal business, commercial,
   government or educational purposes, on devices you own or manage.

2. Distribution inside your organization. You may deploy the unmodified
   installer and templates to devices your organization manages (for example
   with Intune, Configuration Manager or Group Policy), and keep copies for
   backup and archival.

3. Restrictions. Unless the copyright holder gives you written permission,
   you may not:
   a. sell, rent, lease, sublicense or charge a fee for the Software itself;
   b. publish or redistribute the Software outside your organization other
      than by linking to the official download location;
   c. modify, or create derivative works of, the Software, or reverse
      engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent applicable
      law expressly permits this despite this restriction;
   d. remove or alter any copyright, license or attribution notice;
   e. use the Software to circumvent the license checks of Highwind Fleet.

4. Source code. The source code is not licensed to you under this license.

5. Third-party components. Third-party components are licensed under their
   own terms, which take precedence for those components.

6. Earlier releases. Highwind releases published before version 3.7.0 under
   the MIT License remain available under the MIT License. This license
   applies to version 3.7.0 and later.

7. Highwind Fleet. The Highwind Fleet management API and portal are
   commercial software licensed separately under the Highwind Fleet License
   and require a signed license file issued by the copyright holder. The
   Software never requires a license file.

8. Termination. This license ends automatically if you breach it. On
   termination you must stop using and delete the Software. Sections 3, 5, 9
   and 10 survive termination.

9. No warranty. THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY
   KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF
   MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

10. Limitation of liability. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT
    HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN
    AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN
    CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

Highwind Fleet License

Highwind Fleet License
Version 1.0, effective with Highwind Fleet 3.7.0

Copyright (c) 2025-2026 LaPlante Labs LLC. All rights reserved.

This license covers the Highwind Fleet management API, the Highwind Fleet
portal, their database schema scripts, deployment scripts and documentation
(together, the "Fleet Software"). The free Highwind desktop client and Fleet
agent are covered by the Highwind Client License instead.

1. License file required. The Fleet Software is commercial software. You may
   use it only while you hold a valid, unmodified license file (.hwlic)
   issued to you by the copyright holder. The license file states your
   customer name, license type, term, licensed features, device limit and
   any tenant or installation binding. Those terms form part of this license.

2. Grant. During the term in your license file, the copyright holder grants
   you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable right to install
   and run the Fleet Software on infrastructure you control (including your
   own cloud subscriptions and disconnected networks), for your internal
   business purposes, within the features and device limit in your license
   file. You may keep copies for backup, disaster recovery and testing.

3. Evaluation and trial licenses. Trial and Preview license files are for
   evaluation only and may not be used in production unless the copyright
   holder agrees in writing.

4. Expiry. When the term ends the Fleet Software becomes read-only and then
   requires a renewed license file. Expiry never affects managed devices or
   the Highwind client. Renewal does not require reinstalling.

5. Restrictions. You may not:
   a. distribute, sell, rent, lease, host for third parties or sublicense the
      Fleet Software or a license file;
   b. share a license file with another organization;
   c. modify, forge, or tamper with a license file, or modify, patch or bypass
      the license verification, public keys or feature checks;
   d. modify, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Fleet Software,
      except to the extent applicable law expressly permits this despite this
      restriction;
   e. remove or alter any copyright, license or attribution notice.

6. Downloads and source. The Fleet Software may be published for download,
   but downloading it grants no right to run it without a license file.
   The source code is not published. Access to it may be granted by the
   copyright holder on request, for review and security assessment only,
   and may be withdrawn if this license ends.

7. Your data. All data the Fleet Software processes stays in your
   environment. The Fleet Software does not contact the copyright holder,
   phone home, or send telemetry, including for license checks.

8. Third-party components. Third-party components are licensed under their
   own terms, which take precedence for those components.

9. Termination. This license ends at the end of the term in your license file
   or automatically if you breach it. On termination you must stop using the
   Fleet Software, except that you may keep read-only access to your own data
   to export it. Sections 5, 8, 10 and 11 survive termination.

10. No warranty. EXCEPT AS AGREED IN A SEPARATE WRITTEN AGREEMENT, THE FLEET
    SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
    IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
    FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

11. Limitation of liability. EXCEPT AS AGREED IN A SEPARATE WRITTEN
    AGREEMENT, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE
    FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF
    CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH
    THE FLEET SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE FLEET SOFTWARE.

12. Order of precedence. A signed agreement between you and the copyright
    holder (for example a government or enterprise agreement) takes
    precedence over this license where they conflict.
